A decent but troubled young man is sent to a psychiatric institution for the criminally insane and soon finds himself in a fight for his life battling ghosts inside his head and very real enemies all around him.
On the Inside is a master of deception. What appears to be a routine prison flick proves to be anything but. From the outset, the picture proves superior, effortlessly drawing audiences into its chilling, lifeless world of prison for the mentally unbalanced. The aspect of this production that I found most intriguing was Brown’s natural way of layering the plot lines. Not only did this achieve a well constructed tapestry for character development is provided a means to manipulate the circumstances to their optimal deployment.

Mr. Brown has released a highly entertaining drama that will grab and hold your interest; a valid purpose that lamentably few new filmmakers seem to appreciate. He did with an estimate budget of $2 million what a significant number of his peers cannot approach with far more resources. You might have to watch more than once to fully appreciate how this film is constructed but it is worth it.
